Presenting a new line of ships...
[glow=red]The Interdictor[/glow]

The interdictor is a massive subspace-distortion craft, slightly bigger then the Orion. Her massive wings rotate quite quickly. Her weapons are very low energy Anti-Projectile (point-defence) lasers, for most the power is to the Interdictor field.

heres a short film explaining the idea behind the Interdictor (~500kb)

Interdictor field inspired by [glow=yellow]Star Wars[/glow]
Some model components inspired (but not copied) from [glow=orange]Inferno[/glow]
Main hull components (w/o turrets) taken from Volition models

that's the nicest thing i've seen you make Vadar :D

Very niice actually.. and professional!

cute too.. ;)

Edit: Err.. one thing. You know how much i hate to nitpick, but 25,000 LY? With that wide a radius, you could pull anything out of subspace within the FS Universe.. at least in GTVA Controlled regoins.

How bout' like 25 LY? That's sufficent for any size system or Medium sized Nebula, and if any ship goes out further than that, they deserve to try to survive.

i don't know if I like the model, but the little educational/training film you did to explain the thing ROCKS. That's very cool. :)

I think this is more a Shivan technology then Terran due to their extensive subspace knowledge. But still very nice :D.

Neat.  Looks like the Midgard a bit, oddly enough.......especially as no-one's seen the Midgard yet

Lol, KT is right. 26000 lightyears is a VERY significant portion the Milky Way...

EDIT: Corrected my size reference

Even 25LY is still a pretty large area. Bear it in mind that the Solar System is about 19-20 lighthours in diameter (I believe it takes approx. 9 hours for light to reach Pluto).

ALpha centauri is only 3.something light years away. So even at 25LY you'll be pulling quite a few ships out of subspace in quite a few systems.

And considering it is new technology i'd say it wouldn't cover an entire system. But instead within battle range.

The diameter of the Milky Way is more than 90,000ly.  That makes Vadar's interdiction effect a bit under 1/3rd the galaxy. Math is A1... never mind you get it.

Besides, I'm willing to be that the interdiction effect is spherical in nature, and is not a diameter of 26000ly, but a volume of 26000ly3. That gives the effect a spherical volum approximately 36.7ly in diameter. While this is large, its not extreme. Only Vadar can tell us which form the area of effect takes though.

Yeah 25000 km radius maybe, perhaps even 1 A.U. (still REALLY big area), but definately not bigger than the system.  No lightyears, that's just rediculous.

it all depends on how long it takes for the well to shift. if it takes a while, the radius could be larger.

If the radius is larger than a system, we've effectively tossed the current FS understanding of subspace out the window.  If this thing can pull a ship from another system into its own, that contradicts the fact* that subspace travel is not possible between systems save by jump nodes.

*Yeah, yeah, you objector-type persons, it's science fiction so by definition not a fact.  You're very smart. Shaddup.

Ok then, if you did model it from scratch, explain to me why the proportions, UV mapping and turret placement are exactly the same as my one then?

Even the errors I made in the mapping are there...

Ah yes, for some reason I always thought the Milky Way was only 10,000 lightyears but I must've been thinking of something else.
