Need a little conceptual assistance
Ok .... for a few weeks now I've been looking at my stash of Trek meshes ,.... my planet meshes ....and I'm just having the hugest case of artist block ever. I need a few ideas.

Background ? Something besides the average Flaming pear and planet mesh (course methods for improved designs are welcomed)

Another thing.... I've noticed when I import a max file into a scene it losses any video effects that it had,... like glows effects and such ....is there a way to import the .max files and NOT lose this ?

Anyways just post some ideas ,... methods for better backdrops ,...whatever ...I just need something to get me past this block ;)

Thanks

Since a .max file is a scene file, the imported scene's settings are overriding the base scene's. I never could tolerate .3ds format's idiotic way of managing textures, but that might be the best alternative, if there's more work in replacing the settings than replacing the textures for you.

And there WAS some kinda NASA nebula background page floating around for a bit... the Mjolnir render used one...

just to point out that the idiotic 3ds format is 12 years old, so what would you expect? :p

What's the best and preferred easiest way to do decent planetary rings with 3d max R3?

I tried the simple donut and tex map .... but it didn't show up in the render once.

Right now I'm trying to set up a few background graphics for renders.....using predone SW planets and changing the maps around mixing and matching with Sol system maps to create completely new planets ;)

simple disk with a map is the best ( if you're not flying right into the ring, that is ). and I can't see why it wouldn't show :blah:

Well to the first question....I do the rendering in 3d max R3 itself. Then some post work in Photoshop 6 (unless I'm completely misunderstanding )

I figured a disk would be best,..I'll play around with it a bit more ,...it's most likely something i'm doing wrong :D

ah, ok. then forget  everything stryke9 said, it's not true.

a max file is just a bunch of data, it's not a scene or whatever, and importing a scene will never overwrite your current settings ( save for things that shares the same name, then it'll ask you what you want to keep ).
About your videopost settings, you can save them in the videopost window, btw ( the floppy disk ), and load it in another scene.
