Whel i just had the basics at school for self made explosions using particle emitters and lights and this is what i come up with(i made it quick gonna make a polisht one later, with motion blur and such in it)

Good explosion...totally wrong placement of the beams. The Nial has its beams on the inner portion of the wings.

mmh, one volumetric, on particle emitter ( super spray? ), one video post glow, yeah - if you use max, that is -!!!! not that it looks bad
