1: No, Takes to long to render and the same effect can be done with a normal light.
2: Also a no, because redout glows are ugly on explosion flashes.

The wite light comes from the ambient it emits. He needs to turn it off.

Also setup a few spot lights to make the scene abit brighter.

Face the spotlights on the Whitestar and the Drakh fighters. Make them more visible.

If possible, make the light coming from the nearby sun brighter. That is if that sun is done with a light source.

He didn't state that.

But it obvious it aint a Volumetric light.

And as far as i can see the red out glow function aint on.

He also forgot to turn of the ambient on the lensflares.

It needs some extra lights, spot lights are the best for this one and aim it at the whitestar.

Take a screen shot of the light settings on of the glow. Much easyer to telll you how to get rid of it.
