I tend to think of morality as personnal honor.  To me honor is doing the right thing even when no one is looking and no one will ever know.  I'm sure that any one of even mediocre intelligence can figure out from this where i stand on this question.  If you are decieving someone, or turning them basically into a slave.......it's wrong.  That wasn't done to me, it shouldn't be done to anyone else.

I always thought that teaching newbies was how we ensured the survival of our community.

But they don't need teaching. At least not here.

Of course this is what I think... :)

I'm rather certain he doesn't care of the survival of that particular community.....
Science alone of all the subjects contains within itself the lesson of the danger of belief in the infallibility of the greatest teachers in the preceding generation . . .Learn from science that you must doubt the experts. As a matter of fact, I can also define science another way: Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts. - Richard Feynman

Hey! You should see my conversation in the interviews' private...

And mister, I very much care about the survival of this community, more than you think I do.

But give me a reason why should they need teaching?

what i meant by teaching was teaching them some new skills.  I am learning to model, to UV map, to texture, and to pof.  When i got here i could fred.  The more people that we have being active, the more people that can help with what really keeps us going:  The Source Code Project, and mods.  That's the reason for teaching new people.  Some people are going to come here just to get the mods we produce.  Some are going to come here just to get as many avatars as they can.  But some will come here and want to do what we do here.  We create.  We create wonderful toys, and wonderful environments in which to play with our toys.  New people getting active are what keep us alive.  alot of the old guard is gone, who will do what they do?  The new people.  That's why we teach them.....or at least that's why i teach them what i know.  I teach so that they can create, and that gives back to the people who have been creating.

It took me a full year to learn what little I know about texturing and mapping, and its still not that impressive; I still can't model worth sh*t, not geometrically stable models atleast; and my ability to edit pof data ends at subsystems.  What few tutorials can be found are either incomprehensive to a 'newbie' or incomplete in what a 'newbie' needs to know.  In fact, the only tutorial that I've found clear is the Fred2 tutorial that comes with FS2.

Having someone to teach a newcomer the skills involved in modding shortens the learning time; given how much of the FS2 community remains, time is something we don't have much of.  You can either take someone under your wing and help them help the community or you can be a lazy bum and do nothing and watch as whats left withers away.

Guys, while I'm all for continuing the conversation, I have to point out...

There were no links or suggestions, as far as I can see. It was a mere comment.
