1) IIRC, somewhere around 100 subobjects.

2) You can clean up the ship table to make it smaller to make more ships, so it depends on how well you clean.

But the ships table can only hold 130 seperate entries, no matter how much space you clean. I imagine the weapons table comes with a similar kind of limitation.

Although that said, I think the SCP boys have upped the max number of entries... check with them
