What program? (planets)
Which program do you believe is best for creating planets and backgrounds.  Im am intrested in rendering planets at the moment.  Thats for the input:)

Try gliteratto and/or lunarcell. Both are plugins from flaming pear for Photoshop.

well those plugs are ok for a quick background but  can create reallice nice planets with 3d programs - lw does a relaly nice job but comes down to the effort you put in that said its realtiely easy in lw

MAX can do that atmosphere trick, too. Aside from that, pretty much any prog is one level or another of all right.

making textures and bump maps in photoshop and using them on a sphere in a 3D program is always best, but you could use lunarcell if you're lazy, or you could even paint them in photoshop.

Or you could generate maps with Lunarcell and export those to BMPs for use in a 3D App.

Hey I couldnt know less about these programs but one comment about the planet. It is awesome and very realistic but earth's darkside isnt THAT dark. There is some moon shine. But thats just nitpicking.... my random comment for the day :)
