Unless you really need SATA and can live with only two IDE ports and a single LAN port then you can do a lot better than the A7N8X. Boards like the EPoX 8RDA+ and its sister board, the FIC AU11, are cheaper and still implement the onboard Firewire, USB 2.0, SoundStorm 5.1 audio, AGP8X and dual channel DDR. As mentioned earlier you only get a single pair of ATA133 ports (and an extra PCI slot) and only a single onboard LAN PHY but depending on your needs that may or may not be a problem.

Plus, it'd save him from having to get a special controller card if he decided to switch to SATA sometime down the road.
