i was just wondering if anyone has read the following books?

Lord of the Rings -by JRR Tolkien
Dune series -written by Frank Herbert
Hitchhykers guide to the galaxy (all of em)-by whats-his-name
A few others as well like wheel of time etc,

just wondering if anyone out there would recognise the sayings

GoD, nearly everyone here is a fan of the Hitchhikers' series, be it the book, radio series, or TV series.
There are a lot of Tolkien followers as well, although I am not oe of them.
don't know about Dune.

BTW, why is this in the TAP forum, and not GD?

HHGTTG is great. Haven't read it for years, though.....

LOTR is the best book of all time. Simple as that.

Haven't read any Dune books.

Terry Pratchett is cool, as is Ian Rankin.

A good author to try is Iain M. Banks, who writes Sci-Fi stuff, and also writes thrillers under the mane of Iain Banks. I'd recommend "Consider Phlebas", "Excession", and "Feersum Endjinn". They're all bloody fantastic (if slightly odd)

Yes! I used to be quite fond of the Nome trilogy, and I suppose I still am.

Petrarch: Read some Discworlds - if you liked the Nomes you'll love 'em. Read them in order, though, or you'll miss a lot - the later books are full of subtle in-jokes and references you won't get if you haven't read the previous books.  I'd recommend them all except "Eric" - rather weak compared to the rest.

Well its a series by Frank Herbert, I know that his son is continuing with the series by doing a few books about its history and other stuff (kinda like JRR Tolkiens son). I think his sons name is Brian Herbert.

I'd reccomend starting with the first book, Dune.

There are 6 books of Dune by Frank Herbert. After that you might consider reading some of the others by his son (also on the site somewhere)

I've only just finished the third one, Children of Dune, and I can't seem to find a copy of the fourth.

They are all brilliant but I would advise starting from the begining (Dune by Frank H), otherwise you could lose track pretty easily. Afterall, the series spans over a few generations, each book kinda covering one generation.

Have you played the games at all?

Have you ever heard of the Fremen or the Atredies?

I have read the first one, The Colour of Magic and I quite liked it. the problem is that I don't ahve the money to spend on books, I need to buy other things, like a new HD for a start.

Nope. Sorry. I can't think of any place I've actually seen them, to be honest. The only thing I can suggest is to do a search on them.

yeah maybe, depending what format its in.

id presume its a .pdf to hold back the abilty to edit it easily. and a 1000+ page novel is gonna still be fairly big. prob get away with it being under 10mb i reckon but definitly over 1mb

 .pdfs blow goats. You'd think they'd have figured out a way to compress them a bit by now, wouldn't you?

they are actually compressed already. they are mainly used in the printing industry, because they are unformated and basicly what you see is what you get.

though for everyday use i have to agree, they suck.
