When I use the add edge tool, TS sometimes tries too add a face for me. Sometimes, however, the new face is all twisty and ****ed up. Can I disable this automatic face drawing?

No idea.....I may know trueSpace pretty well, but I strongly suggest you corner Tomcat and beat the info out of him! :D

If you can right-click on the add edge tool and it brings up a unique set of options, then that's where it would be if the option exists.  I generally have not seen these faces to be too badly out of whack myself (though it sometimes tries to make a face cover more than 50% of a cylindrical body) and generally if you keep adding edges as mormal the crooked ones dissapear.  If they keep getting twisted up, then something is off about the model.
who needs a signature? ;)
It's not much of an excuse for a website, but my stuff can be found here

Yeah.  I think it's a geometry error.
