Someone want to do a quick MOD for me? :)
Since I have somewhat abandoned the idea for my first campaign (I think the missions would be too repetative) I had an idea for another campaign, which like the first will probably never be finished, but I thought of a quick simple MOD that I might use in it and that other people might like as well, assuming that it would work.

What I was thinking about was making a simple auxiliary cruiser. Now a lot of mission already use Ma'at and Satis frieghters as pirate gunboats, but what about the Triton? Would it be possible to take the Triton's Cargo container, and simply throw an octagonal port on the front, maybe some small turret top and bottom? Then have a Triton dock with, beef up that cargo entry a little bit and it goes into battle with say a light beam cannon out the front and some particle or flak turrets top and bottom. Or maybe make the Front a fusion launcher, or whatever you want.

This could be used for a pirate gunboat, a poor world's Auxiliary Cruiser, or even as a Q-ship. That is a freighter, which looks like easy meat but actually packs a whallop to any pirates which try to jump it.

Thing is, I'm not sure you could have the cargo attacking differen't things. It maybe not be in the code. In which case it might have to be a ship entry or something, I dunno. But it seems like it would work. But as all it requires is to put a couple of turrets on it I thought it would be pretty damn simple MOD for those who do this stuff regularly, while a newbie like me would take a couple weeks and probably mess it up for a campaign which may never see the light of day.

What do you guys think? Dumb/impossible idea? Or simple and kind of cool? (maybe its been done before, I dunno)

Done before... not that I've heard of, but it has been thought of before... by me... and probably about a dozen others.  I had thought of having 2 mods of the Triton for part of a campaign that I might eventually get around to thinking about starting.  The first is designed to look like a regular Triton, but it mounts 4 or 5 AAA beams and has a higher hull strength.  Its for pirate use and is slipped into convoys and then suddenly opens fire.  The change-ship-model (or whatever) sexp would suddely replace the standard model & cargo module with this combat variant, and the cargo module is replaced with one that looks the same, but has a stronger hit-count and is missiong the front end pannel.  You can then see right inside and it is now a docking bay, so it releases fighter wings to assist in the attack.

The second model would have to be completely re POFed.  It would be mated with the model for the large cargo unit, as a POF, rather than being docked with it (freeing up the other dockpoint for use).  The textures of both would be somewhat darker to indicate a further augmentation of armor, and the cargopod would be about 30% shorter, 25% thiner (doesn't hang so low on the underside) and doesn't have those boxy things on the side.  There would also be a few weapons mounted on this segment, which too would be a fighterbay.  The other major addition is that of a light beam cannon (not AAA) on the frontside of the Triton's ventral engine strut.

I call both of these "Pocket Destroyers" after the "Pocket Battleship" Graff Spee from WW2, and have named their class Wolf, since the version resembling the regular Triton would be a "Wolf in sheep's clothing", and the warship version would engage in groups, using the "Wolfpack" strategy.
