Dunno, but it may be worthwhile noting that Ms are dumping win98 soon - and that means removing all the support material and update files from their website.

"C:\Recycled" IIRC, it's been years since I used W9x systems. Not long enough howewer. *shivers*
(It's a hidden system folder.)

Remember that it will hold only 10% of the HDD's capacity by default, dunno how much your dad deleted.

go to bootdisk.com, make a win98 boot floppy and then you'll have all the boot files from the root directory right there ready for you to use, Bob.

IIRC, once you have the boot floppy, just boot the machine with it, and type "sys c:" and it will copy all the proper files to the proper places and set up the boot record properly.
[I am not really here. This post is entirely a figment of your imagination.]

Are MS actually removing access to their updates for older Windows versions? I thought they just weren't making any more udates and stopping free tech support and what not. Surely it can't hurt them taht much to keep the old update pages online?

M$ is removing any mention of 98 on their knowledge base?
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside
