I got a new case today because the support staff at MSI suggested that my current power supply may not be supplying enough voltage to the memory as a possible reason for my current computer difficulties.

I got the case because it was only $5.00 more than the same size PSU that came with it.

Now I'm putting it together for another test run, but I'm stuck.  The case didn't come with a parts list and I've got a bunch of screws I don't know what to do with.

I've got:

8 screws that come to a point

about the same number of hex headed that are the same size, but don't come to a point.

and a bunch of miscellaneous ones that I probably don't need.

In addition I've got the six non-conductive washers and about ten of the white plastic support brackets that pop into holes in the case for the Mobo to sit on.

I ask you which screws do I use to secure the MB to the case?

Are the holes pre drilled?

Holes?

If you mean for the MB screws, then, sort of.  The case has some little plastic brackets that snap down into some pre-punched holes in the case.  These brackets have the same size hole as the brass supports in the center.  It's very strange, the case is setup with a bunch of holes for the brackets except for the center two screws in a standard MB.

I forgot to mention that the screws with the points are twice as long as the rest of them.

I'm fairly sure you need the hex screws. Simply because they are machine screws and shorter.

Ah, methinks the pointed-end screws are for case fans.  Though usually they're not much longer than a regular hex-headed.

The case fans are preinstalled.

I test fitted them to one of the spare brackets, the hex screws are for the brass supports and the pointy ones are for the plastic ones.  The miscellaneous screws do a fine job securing the various drives.

It's moot though, turns out it is the Mobo.  Kind of depressing, should've known it would be messed up the day I got it.  It was like an ice cube when I took it out of the box.  I'm going to test it one more time when the replacement Kingston stick gets here, otherwise it's off to RMA land.

Usually to put in pieces for a computer you'd use machine screws, since there's no need to drill holes or whatnot. Least that's what it's like with everything else I've worked with.

Holes = machine screws
No holes = metal screws

I can't find the link in my favs so I just found ones close to what I remember, they should be of some help when installing your motherboard. The tutorials are from waterwheel, about and some university. :D
