jdjtcagle hints at a solution Xelion. The Wiki has a list of the 3D modellers in use by the community. You can find it here

It won't tell you which is the best because that is completely subjective. Some people find truespace easier some people find Max easier which some like to start on TS and move to Max later.

My advice is download a few trials and see what you like.

Personally, I like blender for just dicking around with, but one of the others would probably be better of wholesale modeling, would certainly serve you better in the long run.

If you know what you're doing with Blender I'm sure you can build some great stuff with it. The problem is that many newbies start with Blender and that can be a recipe for disaster.
