Just um... out of curiosity... uh... why not get FreeBSD or Fedora or.... well basically any of the versions of Unix or Linux that are completely free already?
[I am not really here. This post is entirely a figment of your imagination.]

Because they're not as compatible with Windows stuff (Note: Random guess) and because they didn't just rape another few percent of Microsoft's user-base by following a fairly high profile law suit with the free release of a decidedly anti-Microsoft piece of software.

Cuz most of those IIRC are multi CD downloads. :P Besides I already have Redhat 7.2 and Knoppix downloaded. So it's not like I don't have a linux distro installed.

Linspire, which, according to the company, combines 'Lin' — as in Linux, with 'spire' — which means "pinnacle."

That really, really, really makes me want to puke.

Lindows is a disease and Michael Robertson should burn in hell for inflicting it on this planet.

Right, here's a question from a noob: If I get Redhat/Lindows/Something Else, can it be made to run like Windows when it comes to the UI and user-side of things, or am I going to have to adjust? If so, that would be one more tick on my "Why I should ditch Windows" list.

AFAIK Most distro's have KDE (linux equiv to Windows) installed during the install.

There's always this:

Though quite why you'd want to rape your Linux install like that is beyond me...

If you're setting up a computer for someone who's only used Windows and you're sick of dealing with windows problems it might be a good idea. Just don't tell them that they're running Linux :D
Karajorma's Freespace FAQ. It's almost like asking me yourself.

Yep, you can make it run just like Windows! In fact, Linspire always runs as root by default, so your *nix box can be just as secure as your windows box!
