Can I somehow force FRED to read JPG backgrounds?
It keeps saying that the requested file was not found. I use your marvelous mod switching system, all files are in the appropriate places. I also tried using the -fredhtl flag. In theory, the -jpgtga or -32bit parameters are unreadable for FRED.

There was a bug in CFILE (just noticed it yesterday) that made JPG and DDS files not be read from a VP or outside of the base data directory.  This is fixed in CVS now.  You can do a new build yourself, wait for a new one, or just put any JPG textures in data for now.  Also, Fred (really just code.lib from fs2_open) needs to be compiled with DevIL support to actually load a JPG.

All of this should be fixed now.  -jpgtga will work as expected and Fred will initialize the graphics subsystem at 32bit color when -jpgtga is used.  It will continue to be 16bit color otherwise.

So with -jpgtga you get something like this:

All of the changes are in CVS but I don't want to flood the market with another build right now.  There are already builds that should hopefully be 3.6 before long.  There seems to be a couple of last minute problems that need to be verified and delt with.
