Looking for sound FX
Does anyone know any good web sites where I can get good weapon sound effects? I have tried a few Google searches but all I have found are very generic sounds.

Go to the local airport...place one gallon of jet fuel inside a milk jug. Drive to the local supermarked, throw a bunch of wood and stuff on top of the milk jug. Start recording and light the jet fuel on fire! :p

DISCLAIMER: I do not actually recommend you try this. In fact, don't try this. Not at home, not anywhere. :p

Seriously, try fooling around with sounds, combining them with others, using the different effects options that you can find. Say, a gunshot with a banjo-string-pluck and an echo?

The milk jug – jet fuel thing sounds kind of fun. ;)

Could you then suggest some sound editing programs?

If you dont mind plunking down cash for your audio editor, Sound Forge Studio is a good, low cost editor to use.  Now though I believe it's called Screenblast Sound Forge 7.  I use 6.0e and it's niiice.
I've managed to re-work existing beam sounds and tweak thier frequencies, re-record them and plug them into freespace 2.

I am on a tight budget so I am limited to Freeware.
