Kerry Picks Edwards as Running Mate
I don't have a news link, but look it up on CNN or whatnot.

I pretty much have little to think, but do tell me what you think.  Do you think the couple has potential?  do you think they can beat B u s h?

Cheers,

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Not much to say on that topic yet. It's as good as any other choice, I guess.
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

Sandwich: what do you mean?

Well, at least Kerry didn't pick McCain, with his talk of a *shudder* unity government. Edwards is ever so slightly better, but still a looong way off from acceptable.

That dude had the most peaceful, progressive policy of anyone who actually had a shot at the Presidency. Dean stood for something, unlike Kerry who's been sitting on the fence so long and so hard that he doesn't even remember what the word "principal" means anymore.

The media killed Howard Dean, plain and simple. Apparently, it IS ok to wage and illegal war based on lies, kill tens of thousands of civilians, occupy two foreign nations, set up a puppet government in each, destroy the environment, stuff the pockets of your corporate buddies, obliterate civil liberties, side with ultra-rightist wackos on abortion and gay marriage, but it is NOT ok to be passionate enough about a subject to raise your voice above a certain decibal level. Yeah, democracy in action...

Well, nothing wrong with liking God, and guns aren't that big a problem in society, despite what Michael Moore may say. However, you should realize that even at his sleaziest, a President should do what the majority of the nation is in favour of, and that is in this case sanctioning gay marriage. I really don't care to whom, if anyone, a president prays, but in his capacity as a leader of the nation, he must not base his decisions on religion beliefs, and thats exactly what Bush is doing.

As for imperialsm, thats a whole other matter. People can be imperialist without a hint of God, and conversely, religious people can be some of the staunchest anti-imperialists, precisely because of their faith.

Kerry and Edwards have a respectable attitude on that one:
Turn it over to the states and let them decide.  That way, the people are more directly involved rather than letting national politics decide.

Hmm...  Usually the Democrats don't favor small government.  Maybe they're trying to get a "Republicans for Kerry" thing going?

Oh yeah.  About gay rights, it completely depends on where you live.  If you live on the Coasts (California or Massachusetts <- Spelling?), then you're probably supportive of it.  But if you live in the South or the Midwest, then you're probably against it.  And if you live in Europe, gay rights may be legal already.  So no, popular opinion is split by region here.  Thus it's wrong to say that the entire nation is supportive of it.

Republicans (at the high level) don't favor small government either. Look at Reagan and Bush.

Then look at Clinton. For all of his faults he did balance the budget, get it close to being paid off, and did reform on programs like wellfare.

If anything, other than his personal life, that sounds like a conservative to me...

Not necesarily. I doubt I would become a homophobe if I moved to South Dakota...
