I don't suppose anyone else has gotten trails to be on all the time, right?

yup I'v had them working in TAP before. Only downside being it counts as a missile trail and with too many around some missiles start to lose there own trails...

But yeh, just have Use Nebula trails checked in the mission you make, and then change the trail entries in the tbl to be behind the engine and specify your own image and wahlla!

With the new engine effects in the SCP not sure if TAP will use this style of trail, but we will see what comes out in the final version...

Well, theres the mod that makes the trails appear only when the afterburners are activated, I'm trying to get them to work all the time

The lastest SCP builds do this you can have trains for afterburners.
I usually use the "nebula trail" trick to have them all the time, it's more homeworld-ish
