Scan a bank statement showing you have a million bucks in your account and post the picture.

I'm ready...

Oh and only legit answers please :p

We're discussing where and how the fund would be set up elsewhere on the forum. We'll have something in place soon if it looks like we could raise enough money.

The problem is making it look like a serious attempt to raise the cash. We don't want to scare foreigners to these forums into thinking that this might be a con of some sort.

Then again lots of people gave money to giveboobs.com with much less assurance.

Yeah, the problem being how people are more interested in talking about how they'd give a million bajillion squintillion dollars than doing anything productive to make that a remote possibility.

Two days have past, and ****-all has happened on the rather important steps of setting that up. Partly, I guess that's my fault as I didn't account for how bombed out I'd be after going to work yesterday, and didn't have time to try and fill out the forms. But honestly, I'm the only one who even took the trouble to try, and that right there spells out a pretty serious problem for getting the project off the floor.

If I had any say in the matter, I'd lock/delete any hypothetical discussion on the issue until people knuckle down and get to doing something tangible about it. Like, say, setting up that ****ing account so people can try and give all this money. People aren't gonna stay interested forever, you know, and Smart isn't gonna sit back and wait months for everyone to get their act together and start this thing up. It's all happening right now, and basically if the mechanism for donations isn't up by the end of this weekend you're never going to have a snowflake's chance in Hell of going anywhere, and all this drivel about donated funds will just be more spam. You're not 'proving' anything by claiming to be able to give away some absurd (or miniscule) sum. Talk is the cheapest thing on the Internet, and right now it's so cheap here it's a negative value.

The idea of the thread was to get an idea of whether or not it was worth setting up a fund in the first place.

As you can see from the fact that most people said over $50 I was somewhat surprised by the amount people were willing to say they'd give.

I am, to a certain extent, too, but like I said talk is cheap. While it's not a reflection on anyone in particular's personality here, I think it's safe to run with the assumption that there's a certain inherent flake factor and roughly half the people posting in any of these threads (on HLP and off) are gonna suddenly realize at truth time that it's a lot easier to claim you're gonna give $50 than actually do it. It's also safe to assume there's lots of good people with spare cash who aren't registered here.

That said, yeah, it's been demonstrated that there's some support. That's nice. This discussion has served its purpose, though, and it's time everyone's energies got focussed on making it happen.

Ok, serious questions here folks: How will this money be managed?

you gotta think this thru, it cannot be a knee jerk reaction to a percieved falling sky.

How do you do this right? The short answer is this group probably doesn't. Too much anger, too little experience.

Take a step back, THINK about it for a day. This "situation" is what, less than 48 hours old?

What do we do if we can't get enough money ?
Will everybody get back his money... ? That sounds like much work for the guy who manages the donations.
