Grrrrr what a rip off. For those that thought this was going to be as creepy as Sixth Sense or suspensful as Signs, you are wayyyyy off base here.
Here is what disappointed me... The movie takes place in moddern times, atleast sometime in the past fifteen years. NOT back in the 17/1800's as the previews make it seem. The Village is actually located in a national park reserve that no one can enter, because they can get into serious ****, and no planes are allowed overhead. The reason for this is the main character, mister Walker, wanted to make a kind of utopia for his friends and family, so they could have a quiet and peacful existance away from all the **** in todays world.
So, in order to make sure the people never left, he made up a legend of a creature that haunted those woods, and that any who went in them would be killed. The creatures were little more than costumes made from a red cloak, a laytex mask and gloves, and the Elders, the people who founded the place would wear them!
Now, the acting is very good, especially Adrian Brodey(sp?) who plays a mentally retarded character, who gets carried away with just about everything he does. And the girl who playes Ivy, which is supposed to be a blind girl that sees peoples "true color" but wont ever tell them. And the writing and pacing are both excellently pulled off, but they don't fit the setting and the actual story.
