Because my borther's machine is a bit of a weakling, I gave him an old copy of open 3.5, so he could enjoy glowmaps without having to play aound with disabling other options in the launcher - and the wierdest thing happened.

If you try to put a Tempest missile into a Myrmidon's middle missile bank, you get the warning that:

"A GTF Myrmidon is unable to carry Tempest weaponry in bank 5."

Oddly enough, the lower missile bank can carry Tempests, but won't take Rockeyes.

Is this a known bug, or is it something to do with his machine being a wreck?  (Duron 800, 32Mb GF2 400, 128Mb PC100, W98 FE)

win98 FE? :wtf:

Anywho, give him a 3.6 exe and once the launchers are set up once, they'll run from the exe every time after.

This was one of the many bugs in 3.5 that was fixed later on.

If you want to show him a modern build that works well and has fewer options, use 3.5.5.

Maybe one of Taylor's new builds, but with one of the lite mv effects pack. The other mv effects packs are extremely memory hungry.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Use 3.6 with the effects turned off.

I did and it still used too much memory.
