*finally stops shaking from HLP withdrawls*

Ahhh, much better.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Nah, think they booted that site.

They were changing the server sql configuration or something, got a hosted mail about it this afternoon just after HLP went back up.

Whew. HLP is back. We've already lost the VBB, let's not lose Hard Light...man that was scary. Maybe i'm just paranoid.

Besides, if HLP went down, i'd never get that model from Magatsu1! :shaking:

It's happened before, it'll happen again. It doesn't make the separation anxiety any better though...
Wash: This landing's gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: *shrug* "Oh God, oh God, we're all gonna die"?
Mal: This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then... explode.

Don't think it could ever happen.  I mean, picture it:

"HLP News Updated: 10/21/2004"

"It is with heavy heart that we announce to you we are closing the doors to HLP forever, effective 12:00 a.m. tonight.  We've decided that our skills would be better focused on developing Britney Spears: Hot Dance Trax II than the new SCP build, WCS, TVWP, The Babylon Project, Inferno, etc. "
"Why does it want me to say my name?"

Ah ok... For the other people who had this end up in their spam for some reason:

[q]Good morning everyone-

We have changed the configuration of our dynamic servers to use a centralized phpMyAdmin interface for all sites hosted on these servers.

Please use the link below that corresponds with the server you are hosted on and use your MySQL username and password to login to the system:

http://dynamic.gamespy.com/mysql-admin/

http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/mysql-admin/

http://dynamic3.gamespy.com/mysql-admin/

http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/mysql-admin/

http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/mysql-admin/

http://dynamic6.gamespy.com/mysql-admin/

The old configurations will be removed for you starting on 01 October 2004, so please book mark this new link and get comfortable with it before the deadline.

If you have any problems or questions, please contact us at [email protected].

Thank you,

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was actually able to get into the FS1 conversion website while HLP was down. Wierd.
You really should get some hobbies or something instead or creating whiny threads every single time HLP goes more or less down. :doubt:
Its life, folks!
On the other hand, I have no hobbies and I have no life but I can live with it. Can you?
What you've observed is not odd at all, guys. The hosted sites are on 3dap.com/hlp; the non-dynamic server, which to my knowledge has never been down (at least in our three-and-a-half year history). It's the dynamic server (dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace) upon which the main site and the forums rely; so it's only those last two which go down when there are MySQL or database problems.
Btw, it was closer to 72 than 36 hours. :no:
- Eddie Kent Woo, Setekh, Steak (of Steaks), AWACS. Seriously, just pick one.
HARD LIGHT PRODUCTIONS, now V3.0. Bringing Modders Together since January 2001.
THE HARD LIGHT ARRAY. Always makes you say wow.
