I'm having with the FS Port. I just downloaded the basic install and all the extra VPs except the high res stuff. It wont load the right ships and weapons. For example on the first mission I have to fly a Ulysses with no weapons.  I put all the VPs in the the main FS2 folder. That and Shroud The Light are the only things I have downloaded with the exception of shine maps and subspace upgrades. I am using FS2_Open

Make a new pilot in the title screen (not the barracks). You should do this when installing any new vps.

No you shouldn't.  I've never had to do that, ever.  If you're careful with your VPs, you don't need to.

Try disabling all VPs and tables except the ones from the Port.

And in the future, post this in the FSPort forum.  You'll get a quicker response that way.

That works... except you have to move them outside the FS2 directory tree altogether (otherwise the game can still find them).  A better method (and the one I use) is to just change the file extension - for example, from .vp to .vp1.  Since the game only looks for .vp files, it will ignore the ones you rename.

Another good idea is to put the Port VPs into their own directory (i.e. C:\Games\Freespace\Port), and then use the mod selector in the launcher to choose that directory to read from first.

Anything in the designated mod directory is loaded before anything in the main Freespace directory (thus overriding it).  Do this, and it should solve the problem of the wrong VPs being loaded.

I tried putting them in their own directory and using the MOD selector but it said I can' t use spaces... the name was "FSPort"

Are you sure you don't accidentally have a space at the beginning or end?
