Shooting an innocent woman that had always tried to help the Iraqis.

You don't get it, they don't care.  She was an INFIDEL and therefore a valid target to them.

Many names, but always me.

Actually, to correct you, this particular group of nutters was trying to sell her to the Islamist groups  (such as that led by Al-Zaqwari).  Bizarrely - and somewhat hypocritically - there was a suggestion that Al-Zaqwari's group actually called for her release (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/3987913.stm).

Not in any way excusing any of these groups for these sorts of criminal* acts, just pointing out that it's not always possible to scapegoat religion for this.  Kidnapping is a growth industry in Iraq, sadly - not just political ones such as this (it may have been political, or the intention may have been to 'sell' her on to an even more extremist group), but also ordinary Iraqis.  The situation is, needless to say, completely ****ed up.

*criminal doesn't really cut it, though, does it?  Not nearly strong enough a condemnatory term.

Like i've said before, war gives a free pass to sadists, enabling them to act upon their own twisted fantasies in the name of a 'cause'.  This action pretty much drives that point home (Abu Gharib is another example).

Don't think for two seconds it was about 'fighting the infidels', it was a thrill kill, nothing more.  I've read the Koran as well.  Allah would not be pleased by this, no sir.

Furthermore, I strongly doubt it was indicitive of the attitude of those resisting the American presence.  This was the action of a tiny group of individuals, not the whole of yonder resistance.  Unfortunately, like Abu Gharib, the actions of these dipwits brings shame on the whole resistance movement.  If anything, their action guarantee there will be no negotiations.  Way to go.

One more minor detail, after I shot off my yap, is the body in the tape (or I've also read one was found already), confirmed as being hers?

Did it need to be proven?  I don't anyone could sanely recommend these people as the future leaders of Iraq, or as being dedicated to establishing a fair & honest country.

Whilst there might be what is deemed a 'legitimate' resistance, that'd only be legitamate so long as they were attacking military targets, not civillians.  For example, attacking military convoys with improvised explosives, but not sending car bombs into civillian areas.  I'm not sure if there is a particular group in Iraq who would fall under this 'legitimate' bracket, however (I doubt it, because AFAIK there is no group which operates solely against the military).

Not wishing to create another debate here, but my criticism of the war and the occupation has always been over the tactics used by the Us in countering the insurgency and how they - I believe - have backfired within and without Iraq.  I've certainly never condoned having a bunch of some nutters with ak47s running the country - I just think that the security situation has been botched so far and needs revised.

Anyways; kidnappers = scum. (whether it is for money, politics or ideology)

I think they found the body of a western woman in Falluja, but I'm not sure if this was her - the family is still appealing for the return of the body.

Both the foreign office and the family have concluded she is dead, though, so I'd guess it was confirmed somehow.
