Anyone know where I could find these for a reasonable price? (in the Uk, preferably a shop that would be on or near the high street)

What I mean is like the plastic aircraft kits you stick together with superglue (also the proper solid prebuild things, but I figure those are too pricey)... I've taken an inkling to the idea of building one for my desktop.  Either that or finding some form of clay and building one of my own designs.

Alas, Airfix these days is hard to get hold of. I know of a couple of places in London, but not Glasgow I'm afraid :(

Once, I would have recommended Forbidden Planet, but the place has gone severely commercialised and downhill of late :(

Edit :

Found this list, any use?

I'd forgotten it was Airfix that did the kits, actually.

Don't seem to do sci-fi-type stuff according to their website, though.

EDIT; list might be helpful, cheers.  I know of at least 3 shops on it that have closed down in the last 3 years, natch.

There's a model shop on Bell Street (I think) its in merchant city.  Its got quite a range of models, think there is aircraft, mostly WWII stuff.  Its got lots of stuff used for models in general, I buy balsa wood there to build small gliders.

Edit:  local, huh?

:)

To be honest, Airfix models aren't that great. They're OK, but brands like Tamiya are better in terms of quality (I like the plastic better). Also, you don't use superglue, you use polystyrene cement which "welds" the plastic together (basically dissolves it a bit, then it sets hard again). :)

EDIT: Oooh. Purdy. If you go for Airfix, can I recommend this: http://www.airfix.com/tsr2.asp Great plane, this. Wish it had gone into production.... :(

plastec models are for wussies, go with balsa, then you can stick a radio and an engine in the thing and really fly it. :D
