Hey, I had an idea for a campaign, but I'm not sure if it's been done yet already. I've been getting into the new series Battlestar Galactica (which more or less got me frantic to play Freespace again) and was thinking that might make a good kind of Freespace campaign.
Here's a little brainstorming I've been doing on it. If I am correct, (haven't played freespace 2 in awhile so bear with me) the node from Epsilon Pegasi was still active to Capella. I'd start the campaign off with the battle of Capella and you are a fighter in a battlegroup rescuing civilians from a colony near the edge of the system by the Epsilon Pegasi jumpnode. The Capella start begins to go nova and the ships are being held up by shivan forces. As the fleet realizes they wont be able to make the subspace jump to the node where the rest of the forces with the GTD Aquitane are in time, they make the only move they can to save their lives. The commander gives the order for all the escorted civilian craft to enter the epsilon pegasi node with the rest of the military craft in the area. Now, their only hope is to jump through the nebula with the few military craft with them, while protecting the Capellan refugees, and try to use the old knossos portals in unknown space to find a way home.
This could have a bunch of interesting missions as well, protecting civilian craft, search the wreakage of NTF ships in the nebula to find out how they reactivated the portals, protect gas mining vessels that need to refuel the fleet, and they are stalked by the Shivans who follow them behind every step of the way.
I dunno, I'm rambling on, just throwing up some ideas. They probably suck, but I thought it might make for a different campaign then what I have seen out there. Anyone wanna help me with it? hehe.

I might be wrong about the 'Epsilon Peagsi' thing... Whatever subspace node went from Capella to the Nebula.

You mean Gamma Draconis, right?

Already been done.  Twice. ;)

Darn... and I thought it was a good idea.
Oh well, I could always improve on the idea, and see if I could make a better campaign

It is a good idea.  Both of those campaigns are very good. ;)

TS has a bunch of great missions.  ITDOH sometimes suffers from newbie mistakes but it's quite fun nonetheless.

I'd advise you against coming up with the plot for a campaign now Riptide. Nothing personal but since you're new to the community you'll probably only end up repeating someone elses plot or comming up with a newbie campaign featuring 5 colossi and 20 Sathani not realising why everyone hates those :D

What I'd suggest is that you practice your skills independantly of storyline for a while. Either make some new cruisers and destroyers (if you want to be a modeller) or join the FRED Academy and learn how to FRED/Improve your FREDding for a month or two. Once you know the community better you'll probably do a much better job of making your own storyline :)

Not new to the Fred community actually, new to this one actually.
I've used fred since FS1 came out. Even got a free copy of Silent Threat for making missions. I'll be the first to admit I'm a noob still when it comes to it, but I like realism. I HATE seeing those missions where they throw in a fleet of juggernaught sized destroyers. Actually, I prefer smaller corvettes and stuff in a mission. Makes it a little more exciting in my opinion. When there's huge ships, it makes you feel like you're sitting on the sidelines watching beheamoth's pound on eachother for an hour.

Really?  Are any of your missions on the Silent Threat CD?

Nope, they never made it to the CD.
However, they did have mine on the runners up list, which made me a little happier.

Glad to hear that :) If you feel you need to brush up your FREDding skills feel free to check out the Academy. If you don't need help but like nitpicking we need you too :D

If you want to start, I encourage you. There will be three campaigns elaborating more or less the same plotline, but there is more chance that one of them ever gets released.

We may not have Shivans, but we've got a plot that makes you think, and plenty of enemies to explode. :)
