I have been experiencing many crashes, which seem to be a little random.  By random, I mean it crashing on the same pilot, same settings, same everything, only one time it goes bonkers and the other it runs fine.
I have remembered the latest crash error statement.  It was something about the falure to load a cruiser model, crashed while loading the last Hercules training mission.

Obtions ticked in launcher:
All the default graphics obtions
Decals
Non-Alpha Environment Mapping
Various Gameplay Obtions (can not remember)
Everything else unticked

System Hardware and Video Driver
AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (recognized at 1984mhz in Freespace 2)
ATI Radeon 9600 Sapphire box (a modified XT)
512 mb stick of this fast sorta ram that I forgot the type of
Radeon Omega Driver (latest build)

I have absolutely no idea what the Omega driver's catalyst version would be, as it is not made directly by ATI.  The Omega drivers are said to be very good, though.

From what I have seen so far, I would say Freespace 2 looks beautiful.  I really like the new beam effects!  I hated those plain straight colored lines Volition called "beam weapons".  My system has rune exceptionally well despite the high-demanding checks I have assigned.  I have yet to see the shinemaps, animated glowmaps, and environment mapping.  God, I just want to see a Sathanas blow up or shoot all four beams at the Colossus before it crashes again!

Lucky I am to have played non-scp fs2 before I turned scp on.  That shivan undercover mission was scary.  Wtf were those devices anyhow?

What version are you using?
Can you try a debug build of the same version, and post any error messages it gives you?

Edit: If you're using the "loads only used weapons" option, try disabling it - it's experimental for a reason.

Sounds like a load only used to me, I had this same run of crashes when I first used it. I quickly learned to kill it...
Are you running in D3D or OpenGL?

I am running the latest debug release.

I have not checked LOADS ALL USED WEAPONS.  I have, however, checked PRELOAD ALL MISSION SOUNDS.

D3D... I wish to see shiny ships that reflect.

Well, you have to use OpenGL for shine mapping with any Catalyst drivers over 4.4.

I have never heard of anyone using the Omega drivers. I don't have an ATI, so I don't recognize the name either...

Second suggestion - try removing the mv_aseffects.vp, mv_effects.vp, mv_models.vp from your FS2 directory. That is, remove one, see if FS2 is working again, remove the next one.

If you have mv_zpack, move it and mv_aseffects out of your FS2 directory.
