Hey, it works! Allow me to introduce myself. I am Stardust, the Sword of Vengeance.

First off, I'll start off my litany with compliments. Inferno absolutely kicks ass!!!!! I saw it and i was like....WHOA!!!!!! This would make an EXCELLENT Freespace 3!!! The ships, the weapons, the gameplay blew me away.

However, I was jsut wondering - I wont ask when R2 comes out, ive been browsing some of the threads and won't ask that. It's been asked twenty thousand times already. What I would like to know is, assuming that you stick with the features and ships that there already are in the mod, (arguably) wouldn't the only thing needed to get a whole litany of "releases" out there be to make a whole bunch of missions? I actually made a mission with Earth, the Gigas, and the shivan planetkiller, as well as the Icanus. I think of it as the Shivan battle over Earth that I've heard much about. It wasn't all that hard. Bear in mind, I managed to do it in the middle of my college semester!

Also, I dont know if anyone's tried this, but if you go to google and do an image search for some of the ships in Inferno R1, you actually get hits. Perfect example - SOD Segomo. It's in the "techdest.htm" page. The only pages that I find work are the patges for the destroyers and the super ships - ex: the Gigas and the Icanus. I would like to see the blog about the advanced phobos corvette, but that page doesn't seem to exist.

I like to play Inferno, it has a lot of things that strait FS2 has, only I can't modify teh max velocity for fighters. I hacked the tbl entry for the Aries (strait FS2) and tripled its afterburner capacity. My point is, with the massive size of ships and missions in Inferno, shouldn't the fighters be able to get around faster? An afterburner should be able to propel a ship at extremely high velocity. But the bombers' afterburners push the ship barely a third faster than strait max speed. Cmon, you KNOW it would be fun to zip around the Nemesis at 500 mps!

Alsp, what format is R1 packaged in? The file name is INF_Main.vp. What is a .vp file? I would like to see what is packaged into this file, so I can mess around with it.

Can anyone shed some light here?

That was originally the plan, however to utilise all the new cool stuff that is avaliable with the SCP, we had to rip everything out and start again. This lead to new improvements and changes, and basically a total new mod set. Most of the R1 has been ripped out, and anything remaining has been updated. All ship models from R1 have been updated or replaced, the entire weapon system has been redone from scratch and there's a new campaign to go with it (still basically based on the original story)

That's why it's taken so long for this release. This isn't R2 of the original version, this is a barnd new and improved Inferno.

.vp files are Volition Packages, they can be opened by a few programs such as VP View which will allow you to extract the models, textures, missions, musc and even the tables so that you can tweak, reskin and modify.
You should be able to find links to a vp view around somewhere on the forums, or on the HLP site.

Not all the tech descriptions are done yet, and it will take a very long time to rebuild that part of the site.

As for the EA fleet question I can't answer that at this time.

Allright, with regards to this latest, newest, improved release, where can i download it???

Also, is the Phobos Adv corvette still in it? That is BY FAR my favorite ship. My favorite that you can pilot is the Chaos fighter, with the Mk2 Claymore a close second :thepimp:

The next release isn't ready yet.

Phobos ADv is gone, and so is the Chaos. Basically all the SOC stuff.
Claymore Mark II was replaced with a new model, there's now a Claymore Mark III too :)

Because it's the current one we're working on. I suppose it should be changed, but I'm too lazy to do it :p

Nobody's gonna say it? Alright... *big breath*
New target, bearing 174 by 294 by 317. Commence plasma core insertion. FIRE!
:welcome:

Exits are to the sides and rear. Personal flamethrowers are located under the seats, but they're probably full of water so you'll need your own napalm. Don't go crawling through the air vents as they're infested with Shivans. However, if you do encounter any Shivans, it's just Carl. Give him your lunch and run away. *breathes* Plasma rifles are located in the lockers up front. However these can only be opened by [V], God, an Admin, or a hyperintelligent shade of the color blue. Do not try to enter the control room as it is guarded by subspatial claymore mines. Thank you, and enjoy your stay!
Other things to know:
-You can find everything we know in the fsdock (wiki).
-I rule you. (I wish.)
-Inferno rules you.

That is all.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! NOT THE SOC!!!!!!!!! :hopping:

Ok, how bout the Asarte class of Vasudan destroyer?

Hey, i can talk like that! Here's a sample:

Memphis, this is Aquitaine. Move patrol to coordinates 253x101x20 and hold position. When the Shivans come through, you will be able to fire your beam cannons right up their asses! Make sure your bomber flights are configured to carry Armageddon class graviton torpedoes. We are aware they're actually supposed to look like big blue orbs, so if they look like a bobblehead, let us know at once. It's probably some n00b playing around with the table file entries.

WEEE!!! Ok, im back. What's this about a VP Viewer? NOW you've got my interest lol.

SWEET - has it (vasudan asarte) been changed in any way? I kinda hope not, i like how its vast array of beam cannons are kinda like STS-Stabbers and STS-Slasher (slash and stab).

Is it possible to extract all the entries in the INF_Main.vp and add them to the main Freespace campaign?

I ask cuz i would like to try a versus with the SOC's Phobos ADv and the standard GTVA Deimos corvettes. :ha:

It would also be kinda neat to have all the original FS2 ships, as well as the Inferno ships.

There's also the possibility of transferring ship files and skins from release 1 to this new release.

Does that make any sense guys?  lol

I fixed some mapping problems, but the ship is about the same. Weapons wise I'm not sure, I haven't used it since its changed.

If you cut non used SOC and Ancients ships I think an INF Build can just about handle the ship amount, but I haven't tested that.

That's not entirely possible since we moved to the standalone build, we renamed all the textures and don't inlcude any we don't use. So no glowmaps, shinemaps or anything from the SCP VP files will work with the mod without extensive modification. That means any R1 ships using FS2 maps won't work, and other mods have to be changed to work with R2.

cool cool.

So which file do i download for the VPViewer? Im confused. And i'd rather not download doo much stuff if i dont need to.

You should download the whole dmtools pack; you'll need the stuff in there to view the ship models and anis.
