The problem with the Healthcare system, as I see it, is that the patient has been removed from the money aspect of his or her care by the overuse of Insurance for "everyday" medical treatment such as annual physicals and acne.  Thus the average person suffers a disconnect of the actual cost of these treatments.

If the way insurance works were restructured so that the patient is directly responsible for the transfer of funds, prices would come down.

That's incredibly myopic. What happens when someone needs a heart or liver transplant? I don't think many people have instant access to $150,000.

That's exactly what INSURANCE is for, emergency or other major situations, it IS NOT for paying for every little hang-nail and zit.  

Most sheeple think that their kid's last physical cost $20.00 or what ever their co-pay is.  If they knew and were responsible for the actual cost, which is closer to $200.00, the costs would come down because 1) most people wouldn't and couldn't pay it and 2)costs are high because Insurance companies and HMOs have DEEP POCKETS

The costs are that high because your medical professionals are well organised enough to force the prices up.

The same way the BMA stops the UK from having more doctors than they want by basically reigning supreme over our Universities.
