Ok, so PCS really needs fixing.  I've got another great example of it going completely FUBAR on smoothing subobjects, for the record.  Oh, and I've converted a ship (finally!).  Screens have been to dark to do it justice though, so I'll have to let you settle with renders until I get it packaged.  Oh, and it supports multiple docking (each of those dockpoints has a dock, and they are far apart enough to accomodate elysiums)

I like! The nose is a bit.... bland, but it's a good-looking ship overall. :)

Beware, though. STOP crashes GIMP 2.0.

That's odd, it doesn't break mine.  In fact, that's what I used for the (crummy) custom textures on this ship.

Well, then my copy of GIMP 2.0 just sucks. All I know is that it stopped working shortly after I installed the STOP font, and it crashes when loading the fonts.

I don;t like the ship, but that's not the point here... what's the problem with the smoothgroups?

It's the standard PCS f'd up anything besides LOD0 error, so those turrets are huge masses of misshaded polys.  I'll post a pic from modview when I get time.

Karma: in-game rarely does the problem justice in still-frame.  But since Modelview is being a memory hog and not letting me take a screenshot, they'll have to do.  This is a turret (I do see that I need to work on the UV mapping a tad more around the back, by the way)

The lower LOD's are an absolute atrocity too, but I don't have a good way to take a shot of that.

second shot is more clear.
I said to use an ingame shot cuz when aldo showed it for the first time the coders said that this problem is a modelview only problem and is not happening in game.
Pick that shot (and possibly others too, since it isn't completely clear if it doesn't depend by the absence of smoothgroups) and post em in the scp forum
There's another weird smoothing problem I had with the rounded surfaces (like tie's sphere) when converting with pcs and using specular in game, that makes you see the borders of the polys, I don't even know if it has been solved honestly, maybe I should check and take a shot too.

I think the mesh deserves custom textures. Or less V textures atleast.
