Author Topic: Orientation in FRED?  (Read 1613 times)

Are there any plans to allow fine tuning of ship orientations in FRED instead of just using "point to"?

Right now I have to open .fs2 files in notepad and manually edit rotation matrices. I wrote a program in VB produce the matrix from pitch, heading and roll but I have to save and reload in FRED to see the effects. It works, but it's not very convenient.

Thanks.

click on the ship, press T (and release) and use the keypad to turn. press T again before trying to move the view... for an easier result, press Shift-V before pressing T, and you can view from the ship

:welcome:

Oh, there's also a rotate objct tool at the top of the screen, but its teribly ineffective and hard to use, so i suggest you go with the aformentioned method...

That's what I was frustrated with. That rotate object tool.

The method you mentioned is great, though I still like being able to control the orientation of a Mjolnir to a fraction of a degree. That, and the keypad yaw rotates around a misaligned axis. (unless I have a dodgy fred2_open_3_6_5.exe)

Guys! Where are your manners?

:welcome:

Exits are to your right and left, and flamethrowers are under your seat. Be careful, though, as they are sometimes filled with water, so bring your own Napalm or try to club someone with the non-working shotguns in the weapon closet. Also, be careful while wandering the ventilation shafts. If you see a large, five-limbed creature that looks really pissed, it’s probably Carl, give him your lunch and he'll hopefully go away.  If you see a big desert creature its probably Raa, give him a fish and he might leave your head alone.  In the event of an emergency, the n00bs will be the last into the escape pods, if there’s any room left. The Plasma rifles in the forward locker are released only under authorization of an Admin, [V] God, or hyperintelligent shade of the color blue. Oh, and whatever you do, don't mention the word Freespace followed by the number 3.
"You shot me in the bollocks, Tim"
"Like I said, no hard feelings"

This is something that would be good to add.
