I am a fan of Volition though, from the Summoner and Red Faction days, but know nothing at all about Freespace - and will never get to play it, which is a shame because it seems like an interesting game...

Clave, why won't you ever get to play Freespace?  If you download the HOTU version, plus the extra VP files, plus the SCP, plus the cutscenes, plus the FS1 Port, you can get the whole FS1/2 experience for free.

Talk to taylor about the port to Mac OS X. He knows more about Tigital's port than I do. From what I understand it will run FS1 and FS2 just fine.

EDIT : A quick google search turned up Tigital's site but I'm not 100% what to reccomend you download. I did turn up a short guide on how to install it if you have the PC Retail version

I'd be willing to bet that with the exes on that site and a copy of the HotU build you could be playing FS2 pretty quickly

Actually this might be worth putting in the FAQ. I have no Linux or Mac OS X stuff in there (Nor a mention of the Amiga port curiously enough considering that I'm a huge fan still).  Might be nice to make sure people looking at the FAQ know that those OSs aren't excluded

Most everything OSX is in. Might need a little hand holding at first but nothing major. There is a couple of small networking parts that I need to grab out of icculus.org CVS but that's no big deal. It still isn't going to build a good binary out of the configure script but I'll work on that soon. Really the only thing missing is to get a project file going and test it out. I have already had it running under OSX but there has been a lot of new code since then and some stuff may not work right.

There's some code in the pilot file load/save stuff to handle MACs, too.
