I think the main concern is the fact that this suggests the cap which formed is eroding away from the inside. It might actually be a good thing if the pressure is released through several small eruptions rather than one massive one.

Yeah, the lava dome collapsed. You could see magma on the surface apparently (if you're in a helicopter).

Well, my secret plot to have the US all to myself is down the pan now...:mad2:

Never underestimate volcanic events:

When the volcano in Yellowstone National Park blew 6,400 centuries ago, it obliterated a mountain range, felled herds of prehistoric camels hundreds of miles away and left a smoking hole in the ground the size of the Los Angeles Basin.

There's a couple of zeros missing in that quote. Yellowstone last went up 640,000 years ago IIRC. The last supervolcanic erruption was Toba ~73,000 years ago (which incidently almost made mankind extinct).

As another comparison, the Yellowstone crater is the size of the city of Tokyo.

However, the real danger is Jellystone.......lots of dangerous feral wildlife there, threatening to destroy the human race with their picnic-stealing ways.

*Pictures giant camel with huge saber teeth and godzilla-like spiny things going down it's back*
