FS2 Open 3.6.5 and ATI Catalyst driver 5.4, audio problems
When I load FS2 Open 3.6.5 while using Catalyst Driver 5.4, I get this error message:

Error: Current GL Version of 1.0 is less than required version of 1.2
Switch video modes or update drivers
File:E:\Languages\Visual Studio Projects\Visual C++\fs2_open\code\graphics\gropengl.cpp
Line: 3659

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------

Loading in Catalyst 4.12 is ok.  I have not tried Catalyst drivers 5.1, 5.2 or 5.3 as of yet.

Also, I have downloaded the latest mv_zpack for FS2 Open 3.6.5.  I am unable to hear any music at all, although I can still hear the effects or play the game (the new effects look great too).

Please Assist.

Thanks.

The error also pops up with Catalyst 5.3.  I'm able to run Open with 5.2.

Try a newer build, the problem is that older versions of fs2_open only check the latter half of the version string. The Catalyst drivers bump OpenGL to 2.0, so it reads you as having OpenGL version "0". ;)

There are many different builds there, released by different people.  Can you recommend which build to download?

And also, can you provide an answer to my audio problem? (no music in battle)?

Except for checking that you haven't ticked -nomusic in the audio section of the launcher I'm pretty much out of ideas.

Are you running on HotU or something and haven't downloaded warble.vp? Cause mv_music.vp or zPack only replace 3 of FreeSpace2's audio tracks.

Tahna Los, I was just about to post that same music problem myself. I'm running one of the more recent builds with the 3.6.6 MediaVP release, and I'm getting no audio in-mission as well.  The briefing and menu music still works fine.  This is on a full version of FS2, not the HOTU one. The thing is, I'm almost positive the sound was working fine with the 3.6.5 VPs.  Could there be an issue in the new mv_music.vp, or in one of the table files?

It's possible. Unfortunately my copies of the VP files are on my main PC and since that's in pieces at the moment I can't check. Try extracting the music.tbl from root_FS2.vp with VPView and sticking it in FreeSpace2\Data\Tables.

If your music suddenly returns then you know it was a media.vp related problem.

(Don't forget to delete the file after you've tested though or you'll get low quaility music even after this problem is fixed :D )

Make sure the sound is(n't) working with the latest _ex build I released + the 3.6.6 VPs.

Nope; the original music.tbl didn't do a thing.  Weird stuff.

Okay, it just gets weirder.  After ditching the original music.tbl file, I moved all of the new VPs out of the main FS2 directory and selected the "No Mod" option.  The music worked fine.  Looks like it is something in at least one of the VP files.

Edit:  WMCoolmon, I tried your March 18 build (the most recent one on the SCP site), and the same thing happened.

Another update:  I just tried out Goob's new build, and still no audio in-mission.  I did experience something that just adds to the puzzle, though.  I was testing this new build out on one of the X missions that uses one of the battle themes as briefing music.  I'm almost completely positive that the track that was playing was the high-quality .ogg file, not the low-quality original .wav, which would mean that the mv_music.vp file was at least being partially detected.  It seems as though it's only the music in-mission that isn't being loaded.  I'm just ditching the music VP entirely for now; I survived on low-quality music with FS1 and 2 for years without complaint. :p

Just out of curiosity, are Tahna and I the only people who are having this problem?

Edit:  This is just strange.  Even with the mv_music.vp deleted, I'm still not getting any music.  There's nothing else there to interfere with the music; what the heck is going on?  The only thing I could possibly think of is that I have the launcher set to use a certain mod folder with the FS2 movies in it; there's nothing else in that folder, though, so shouldn't the music VP in the main FS2 directory still play fine?

Are you getting any registry errors when using the launcher? (go to the "Registry" Tab and an error pops up).

Is zPack still in use? It contains the entire contents of mv_music

No, I'm not using the zpack.  The only thing that worked was getting rid of all of the VP files.  I'll try fooling around with them tomorrow to see if anything works.

Wow, I'm getting some really loud popping that happens randomly after upgrading my Catalyst drivers from 5.2 to 5.4.  I've done a complete uninstall/reinstall and am using the base 3.6.5 executable build and the 3.6.6 VP files.  I only get the audio crackling on actual sounds, not music.  I renamed my Music.vp file to something else and I got my music back, but the audio pops and crackles way worse than the last mantis bug that got closed recently.  Shall I post this in mantis?

Just tested with WMCoolmon's 4-15 build.  Much more stable, but the sound popping is still there.  I could try and post a clip of what the sound sounds like if anyone wants a listen.  Though... I suspect that this would happen since upgrading to the specific video drivers in question here, as I've used the standard 3.6.5 build before with catalyst 5.1's and there's no audio popping.  I'll try reverting to Cat 5'1 s later and see if this fixes the problem too.
