I don't like any of them. None can play FS2. :p
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Pfft, Resident Evil 4 is and will always be the best on it's original console, Gamecube, all thanks to Nintendo's growing bond with Capcom.

Also, can someone PLEASE edit the Poll to include the SNES!

Hard to say, as PS1 is the only console (from that list) that I've played with. But 'cos I own PS2, I'll go with that as my fav.

But any XBox game I actually want to play (there aren't many) is available on the PC... and my PC is more versatile anyway. Why would I want to spend more than £20 on a console?

I spent 2 1/2 hours playing my brother at Pro Evo 4 on the PS2 this evening.  Now that you can't do with a PC.

(or at least, not in less than 30 minutes setup time.....)

It's no fun if you're not able to see & talk to the person you're playing with....

And yeah, you can play on the same PC.... but you have to wait ages for said PC to start up, possibly contend with crappy or unconfigured controllers, most people don't have a PC in their living room with a sofa positioned for perfect viewing, and most people have bigger TVs than Pc monitors..... not to mention the increased likelihood of crashes.

Whereas I can grab the PS2, haul it downstairs, plug it in and play in under 5 minutes.  Piece...of...piss.

1. I assume in a PS2 you can see what person you are playing with in online multiplayer then

2. A PC takes about 2 minutes to start up.

3. Most controllers I've seen are pretty similar to console ones. My own is almost identical to a PS2 one ( http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2225,CONTENTID=8674 ). Configuring controllers takes about less than 1 minute, if needed at all.

4. You can link a PC to a TV

5. Crashes are increased? Explain? It's the same game... if anything, the likelyhood of crashes is decreased (as in future patches and stuff)

Of course, you are right that the ps2 is faster to hook and play, but just because it's a bit faster, doesn't make it the only thing capable of enabling you to play that game. :p

Now if you are talking about GTA San Andreas, I'd back your claim... for a few months

1/ online?  Eh?  I never said online - I couldn't give a monkeys about online multiplayer, especially PES

2/Depends on the Pc.  and then there's the game startup time.

3/And some are, in fact, pish.  Point is, there's not an accepted default controller setup; if you have 2, you'll likely need to tweak the button assignments.  Consoles have an instant advantage in a default common setup, and games built to take advantage of it.

4/Why bother if a console is easier to link to a TV and portable so you don't have to worry about where to put it?

5/Except a lot of Pc games are released in a buggy state simply because they know they can patch it.... and console conversions often aren't ideally suited to Pcs anyways; they're not as easy to optimize to a varied architecture and specification as for a single console spec.

My point is, it's a hell of a lot more convenient to move a PS2 into a living room - or another house - fire up a game, and play 2-player than it is to do the same with a PC.  Doesn't mean a Pc is worse, it's just not as good or - crucially - convenient at split/same-screen 2 player games.  Particularly as some games may be coded with an fov that assumes the players' distance from the screen.

So.... even if I play a lot of single player PC games, it's always the PS2 that gets dragged out & about for social gaming.

Colin Mcrae on the XBox is just awesome...

I like PS/Mac better for FPS and RPGs though - the keyboard/mouse combo is the best...

As for playing PC through TV, I play XBox through Mac - it's good for recording film clips of games...
