If I Remember Correctly :D Should have guessed you haven't been around enough yet to recognise the more common ones.

AFAIK = As Far As I Know  - Before you run into that one :)

Thanks. :) Fortunately, I do know AFAIK. I just confused IIRC (a lot) with Internet Relay Chat.

Anyway, I don't support illegal activities. Nevertheless, I'm sure Volition would've made the game freeware or something, if they could. Besides, there is already a version of Freespace 2 on HOTU and here (the FTP servers, I think). I know that those versions are 'light' ones but we're obviously not feeling too guilty about it at all. ;) I voted yes.

If I do it heres how it would work, I would have a single computer with just linux coyote and the ISO's installed. You could download one at a time. You would set up a time to download... I don't have the cash to do it any other way, is it still worth it?

When i'm remember correct you must buy Freespace 1, but can download Freespace 2...

Legally, you can't download either one unless it's FS2 and "a friend" is "making a copy for you", presumably by sending it directly to you through an instant messenger or a massive email account or something.

However, the publisher that would object to these downloads no longer exists in any meaningful form and I wouldn't be surprised if :v: likes the downloads being out there as free advertising towards the long shot chance that they can convince The Lawyer Formerly Known as Interplay's to unload the rights.

Considering you can download the code for free and have most of the game anyway, it's a moot point.  The only thing we could be "warezing" is the content.

The icculus Linux port of Freespace is able to make a pretty damn good approximation of the FS1 code.

...not that has any bearing on whether or not you can distribute the VPs that actually make the game.

Just to elabroate slightly: It's short for ISO9660 which is the particular standard number for CD data storage.

So? You really think that would be a defence that would save you in court (not that this would ever go to court!). If you put up FS2 ISOs you're warezing 1.8GB of content and about 10 Meg of exe.

If you put up FS1 you're putting up 1.2GB of warez content.

So if you're just going on size FS2 downloads are actually more illegal :D

You're wrong. Deal with it and let JoeLo put up whichever game he feels like putting up cause legally there is no difference.

Good point actually. :v: said that they couldn't release the FS1 code only because they no longer had it because they destroyed it making it into FS2.

Whether you believe that excuse or not it does mean that as far as we know the FS1 code is every bit as released as the code for FS2.

And who would want the sourcecode for FS1 when you can get it for FS2, which has everything FS1 has and more? ;)

btw, you can download the fs2 iso's here ;) so there wasn't really any need for making torrents. ;)

To consider the Earth as the only populated world in infinite space is as absurd as to assert that in an entire field of millet, only one grain will grow. - Metrodorus of Chios

I could only imagine the GTVA warriors giving a mighty KIAAIIIIIII shout as they worked their triggers, their biceps bulging with sinew after years of Ivan Drago-esque steroid therapy and weight training. - General Battuta
