Is this possible (without scp updating or whatever)?
This is in regards to the Battlestar Galactica Total Conversion being conducted at game warden:

I was thinking earlier while playing Freelancer (yes that dreaded game; and this may have been asked before), it occured to me that in the game (duh) u can fly in and out of nebulas depending where you are in the system.

I remember back when freelancer first came out alot of us asked if this was possible to do in freespace, sadly i dun remember the results, although i can guess it never happened...

anyway my thoughts was, would it be possible to simulate a Nebula (without the full system nebula flag) in FRED by replacing the asteroid field flag (or make a new flag selection), using the Nebula poof's textures etc. instead of actuall MODELED ASTEROIDS in the field? If this was possible, any ideas on how it could be done?

again this may be possible with existing scp tech, nothing new, so im askin the talented guys of the cmmunity to kinda churn out some therories on how to accomplish this?

I believe Nico once suggested this using nothing more than retail.

Hmmmm. Yep he did. Here's the link.

The easiest way to do this would be to make your nebula as a model and texture it "invisible" (so it has a bounds and so that you can make it non-collidable) and then populate its volume with tons of glowpoints.  You could also get creative with subobjects and make parts rotate to mimick a swirling effect.
who needs a signature? ;)
It's not much of an excuse for a website, but my stuff can be found here

hmmm.... be as it may my freespace modding expertise has dwindled over the years due to much of it being lack of time or effort on my part, i dun think i would know where to begin even with that first step...

i should pm omni to see his opinion...
