I am not sure if anyone watches this, but what are peoples opinion? Personally, it is funny, but I watch and the jokes about right wingers is a little over the top?

it tries to be too much like family guy.  i'd probably watch it if FG wasn't restarted.

Err...Isn't that because it's from the same guys who made Family Guy?

It's alright.

If it does more character development than FG (ie characters actually change over time) I could see it as being good...otherwise it just seems a bit done.

I don't think its too bad. Not as good as Family Guy, of course, but not bad.

i just think it lacks the same free for all that the simpsons generally has. In my opinion though it is ever more political that FG. I know that sounds obvious, but it seems like that is the whole point of the show.

I downloaded one episode, and I'm not really too impressed. It looks terribly forced, it tries to hard. Not aat all in the same class as the Simpsons (older seasons anyway), Family Guy, Futurama etc..

It's nothing special. It's just like Family Guy. Seth didn't try something new.

Futurama wasn't really all that funny...it was just really lame sarcasm jokes.

I like American Dad. It's funny, and although it's really similar to Family Guy, the jokes are pointed in a different direction, giving it a different flavor. It gets a 7 or 8 out of 10 in my book.

Or is that the point of the show, to seem more political, but in reality is meant to send a message that you should move past the political situation, and take something from it?

Considering the current political situation of the US, just blatantly making fun of conservatives in general just seems like throwing fuel into the fire.

But maybe I'm overestimating Seth MacFarlane.

The simpsons does a good job of helping people take something away from the show, but I honestly think this is just a free for all on conservatives. It is funny. I like it. But sometimes it is over the top. However, they can say what they like.

The past few years, it's just gone to hell. Anything after about Season 6 is iffy. The moment they tried to make it more "relevant" what with all the celeberties, political commentary and stupid gags, the show lost it's charm. I can't even bring myself to watch it anymore, for fear of ruining my fond memories.

Few of the animated sitcoms have ever appealled to me even slightly. This is not one of them.

American Dad is funny in that it isn't really funny. It's pretty much the Family Guy, with the personas of characters switched around and bad jokes. Don't get me wrong, I love a good joke about the right-wing just as much as anyone, but a show entirely dedicated to that? Well, it gets a little old. Especially when the only method American Dad seems to use to accomplish that is by contrast to bad jokes made about liberals. A pint of it is nice, but a whole gallon is drowning.
