I was wondering if the ingame comm system can be modifed to include more options.

Aslo is it possible to issue commands like attack or disable target to cruisers and corvettes?.

For example I could order a Fenris to attack a fighter group or go for an enemy cruiser. As its possible to order fighters around, would it just be a case of changing the cruiser flag to accept comm' commands.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I recall being able to give attack orders to cruisers towards the end of the game (you're a squad leader at that point), but I could be wrong. It's been a while since I've been that far.

You can order "Destroy my Target" and "Depart", but that's it, I think DH wants some more options like "Disable My Target" and stuff like that.
"You shot me in the bollocks, Tim"
"Like I said, no hard feelings"

I have always wished for a "Protect wing" command.  There's protect my target, and I have to individually tell each fighter which ship to protect.

But let's say there's "Omega" wing, with three transports.  Alpha wing has no orders.  I want my wingman to guard it.  As of now, I have to go "Alpha 2, guard Omega 1.  Alpha 3, guard Omega 2.  Alpha 4, guard Omega 3."

If I could just say "Alpha wing, guard Omega wing" or "Alpha 3, guard Omega wing" that would be good.
how do i shot gun???

The reason why you can't order cap-ships to do anything of an offensive nature (pun not intended, but be my guest) other than straight "attack my target", be cause that only involves controling the "pilot" of the ship.  As a fighter or bomber, the "pilot" controls where the shots are going because they are primaries and secondariles.  Cap-ships have turrets ONLY, and turret AI is completely separate from "pilot" AI.  No order to a ship will filter down to its turrets (with the exception of the "ignore" bug).  The turrets will fire according to their AI programming at whatever hostile targets are neary (barring sexp controlled turrets and protected ships), regardless of what the ship they are mounted to is being ordered to do.

I'm quite sure you can highlight the wing with the proper F-button hotkey, then tell them to guard your target.

Freighters or transports in a wing probably aren't actually in one and are mearly named to appear that way. The reason for this is because if you actually put them in a wing you'll get some rather odd behaviour.

That means even if a protect wing command was implemented you probably still couldn't use it for them. It could be used to protect bomber wings though.

How about scrapping the old "protect target" and adding two new commands?

That would be "protect my target ONLY" and "protect THIS target IN ADDITION to the others i told you earlier" to create a list of targets to protect (even wing :D )
Perhaps "protect only" would erase any guard-list of targets recently added and you could start over again with a guard-list.

I haven't looked at the code but judging from the way the AI SEXPs work I've always assumed that protect targets were cumalative anyway.

When a new protect order is given what happens to older orders? Are they simply cancelled or are they reassigned to a lower priority?
