For the fighter's thruster? Here's how to do the thruster texture...I'd be more specific but I don't know what you're using to render.

Add a transparency map to the thruster, you should be able to use the same bitmap as the one you already have for the thruster. And more importantly, make the thruster material self illuminating, 100%, in either solid white or a bright, white blue. A
And if you're using MAX, I would also suggest adding a Noise space warp modifier to the thruster models, just to give them a bit of randomness and make them look cooler.
As for actal GLOWS, that's more tricky and I'll let one of the serious Render Gurus answer that one.
