I like the idea of it being a super-capship heavy bomber.  Higher speed, slightly more maneuverable than the typical heavy bomber but light on general offensive capabilities.  Rather than engines those could be two large, fixed, beam turrets.  Only two primary gun turrets with only a couple of supported primary weapons and it can't carry bombs or any type of tracking missiles (heat seeking and dumbfire only).

It wouldn't do much against fighters but a wing of these things would be great against Shivan juggernauts.  With the way that FS2 ended I would think that command would be looking for better ways of combating Sathanas class ships than just relying on the Colossus.  That is if this were actually intended for FS2 universe missions anyway.

My first impression is something out of star wars.........
"War is like playing a game of chess.  You move units on a field, and stratiegically try to weaken the opposing force, a sort of... elequent ballet.  Sure you might lose a few units,.... but, at times, it all part of the plan..."

"Most of the human race really don't give a damn.  Well I do, and I try to do something about it by giving a damn."

That's a very interesting idea.

Hence the wings and fins on my Icarus/Star Rider/Trogen Transport...;)

On the ship itself... like others said, the shells and engines/missile pods/freaking-huge-gun-things look very fragile.  ATM, one good knock and the whole lot would snap clean off.

Great way to get someone off your tail though, except you only have two shots at it....

IIRC there's a post on the old FS mailing list by Adam Pletcher saying they have anti-gravity in the FS universe.
