I juss cant figure this level out.  where is snipes and the grall ship?  any help?  I only found one nav buoy, and the other is well, lost in space.

im having problems finding bouy 2 myself, i just got lucky and stumbled across it

Here's what I always do:

I happen to know that at the beginning Snipes is directly in front of you. So I just afterburn away at straight line, ignoring the dumb Shivans. If you go straight you will find Snipes.
Then just call the transport and wait for permission to depart. You can try to blow up a few Shivans if you like...

GO TOWARDS THE BLIPPING BUOYS!!!

Once you're at the first buoy, look at your radar. There should be a flashing grey blip. Head towards it; when you get close enough it will show up as a solid grey blip, and another flashing one will appear. Keep following the blips on your radar until you get to Snipes. If you get lost, just target the nav buoys and follow them in sequential order till you find the flashing one again.

Oh yeah, that was a toughie!  There are a ton of buoys.  Like...seven.    Just keep following the blips, and you will reach him.

Just remember...  You've got to save him now, so that, in the next mission, he can say the one line in the game that will give you the Hershey-squirts.

Seriously, once you realize the flashing sensor indicator is the one to aim for, it's not that hard to find Snipes.  Just make sure you call in the rescue ship wicked-damn-fast, or the Shivans will mob you and the Grall.

I think purpously put the Grall right in the center of your reticle so that you could speed trought to it. 'Cause its so annoying mission...

Actually, defeat all the Shivans, and when they stop coming, call it in.

Yeah, that's an option, if you can do kill them all off, without the Grall biting it.  Usually, I've got more Shivans following me from the line of nav bouys, so I give preference to the quick exit, instead of a drawn-out fight in a thick nebula.
