This is by far, IMO, the most frustrating level in FS1.  It is the one where you are flying the Dragon and IDing the shivan destroyers.  The only way I could find to beat it is to do the infinite ammo exploit (use codes and get infinite ammo on a different level, then exit) and blow the 3 patrolling dragons out of the sky, then proceed to ID everything.

Has anyone beaten this 100% without doing the above?  Cus I sure havent  .

I always took advantage of a glitch that let me clip through the Lucifer in that level as it warped in. Lucy's a nice place to hide from those Dragons.

Yes, it's possible to complete without firing a shot till near the end anyways.

I always set  all the power to engines at the beginning of the mission and keep afterburning to the closest cargo container. Usually when I get the first two scanned the first pair of freighters warp in but I continue to scan the last two. Then I head for the freighters. The trick in this mission is to keep a close eye on the 3 dragons though. The best way to keep track of them is to add them to your monitoring list. I think you first have to remove the ships that are already in the list though. So, just keep a eye on the dragons while between scanning each ship and you should be fine. And I believe you have to be more than 500 distance from the dragons to keep from your cover getting blown. Also command will notify you when a dragon is getting close to you so just hightail away from the closest one to you while not heading towards any of the other two. After scanning the Demon destroyer the Lucifer will jump in shortly or will have already. Command will tell you to scan one of it's docking bays but, what they really mean is one of it's fighterbays. After scanning a fighterbay some manticore fighters will fly out of both bays and your cover will be automatically blown and at this point however the 3 dragons will have already entered the lucifer's bays some time ago. So, just concentrate on taking out the manticores and don't forget to put some energy to weapons and maybe even shields if you're taking hits from the manticores/lucifers turrets.

One thing you can do is add all the Arjuna ships to a hotkey. That way you can have 'em all highlighted at once.

Or you can just avoid them and scan the cargo like command says.

I dont use cheats and that is a easy mission. Take advantage not of the glitches (which i have not found..), but take advantage of commands 'they are getting closer to you, move it!' warnings.

I never made a conscious effort to avoid Arjuna; I just went right for the cargo containers at the beginning, and they just pretty much avoided me for most of the mission.  On the odd time that one was approaching, Command warned me in plenty of time, and I just targeted it and afterburned in the opposite direction.  The only other thing I can think of that might help you is to stay near the node until another round of ships jumps in, and then just fly behind them until you've scanned all of them.  That always worked for me.

Cool, Cuz that mission always frustrated me, and the only way I beat it before was blowing the $*#% out of the dragons.  Since I'm playing FS1 through again, I'll take the covert route this time.  Thanks for the help.

I also never pay much attention to Arjuna. The first time I played that mission they never approached me at all, and on subsequent tries it has usually only happened once or twice if I stay around the area where the cargo is, in which case you can just run the other way.

When the Rama fighters arrive at the end, make sure you use the Prometheus you have; that gun hardpoint on the Dragon actually fires three shots, but they are so close together that they look like a single shot.

I wonder what Command was going to have you do if you had actually managed to get inside the Lucifer... :D

I never even looked at the Arjuna. The trick is to STAY where the first two cargo containers were. Memorise that position in co-relation to the node.

Mission starts, all power to engines, you get to the first two cargo containers - scan.

Freighters - scan.

Two second cargo containers - scan.

Whatever else jumps in - scan.

Eva - scan

Lucy - Let it go THROUGH you (nice usage of a bug where it's a GHOST because of the speed it comes out of the node). Follow her, scan.

Go to the fighterbay - scan.

Fly around her (stupid enemy will collide with her) - jump when you're able to.

Will Do :).

But for now I have to work on getting that shield technology through the jump node.  Those pesky shivans, will they ever learn?

That mission is so easy, I can beat it with my eyes crossed and my knees closed.
