Possible bug: Skipping "completed" missions on game reload.
Hi. First of all, if any of the developers are reading this, congratulations on such a great piece of software! The improvements over the original FS2 are seriously impressive, and I'm having great fun playing through the game for the first time.

I'm sorry if this is a known issue, but I had a quick look through the forums and on Mantis, and I didn't see anything. I'm using the 3.6.7 SCP release and I'm playing through the original FS2 campaign.

On two occasions, I've been stuck on a mission, and I've wanted to quit the game and take another shot at it later. Problem is, when I load it up again, I'm on the next mission already.

This seems to happen if you quit from the mission, or from the ready room (and choose "Quit, but retry mission later"). I'm fairly sure it only happens if you survive the mission at least once, and get the chance to go onto the next mission. Also, both times I'd been offered the chance to skip the mission after failing it 5 times. Don't know if that's a factor.

Last time it happened, was on "Bearbaiting". Attempted the mission about 15 times, quit from the mission, and from the game - reloaded, and was on the next mission, "High noon". The mission isn't listed in the tech room either.

Also, does anyone know a way I can go back to "Bearbaiting" in the campaign? It seems the result of that mission influences "High noon" and the game is acting like I didn't complete any of the objectives. Would really like to take another shot at it. Any way I can hack the pilot file or something to go back a mission?

No idea why it's skipping missions but I don't think you've lost too much.

Bearbaiting is considered complete if you manage to take out two of the Sathanas' beam turrets. You can play either mission from the techroom >> Simulator without too much of a problem.

Just out of interest why are you having so much trouble with those missions?

If you really want to go back and play it, use the '-allslev' command line which will display all levels in the techroom (probably including bearbaiting)

Sounds to me like your campaign progress got bumped up, but maybe the scores from bearbaiting weren't saved.

Possible bug: Skipping "completed" missions on game reload.
I encountered this once while doing some testing for the Inferno R1 SCP patch, about a year ago.  I played the blockade mission when the Diablo enters Ross 128.  I completed the mission, but with very weak hull and low weapons, and I wanted a chance to survive in better shape for the following Red-Alert mission, so I clicked to replay the previous mission.  I got the message that I'd lose all my progress from the previous mission, which I accepted.  During the second run, I encountered some game slowdowns so I decided to quit and reboot, and try it again.  When I came back, I had moved on to the next mission and the previous one wasn't available from the techroom... it was completely blank.  This may be limited to just Red-Alert chain missions.  It seems that progress for the previous mission isn't being deleted from the pilot files.

Karajorma: I could take out two or three of the beam turrets ok, but was having trouble taking out that other ship that jumps in after the Sathanas leaves. I guess I just don't like failing objectives. At least not primary ones. :)

I know about the -allslev option, but I'm guessing the techroom simulator missions don't affect the campaign state, and I was hoping not to have to take on the Sathanas with all its beam weapons intact in "High noon".

Here you go then. Extract this in your Freespace2\Data\Missions folder.

It's a campaign file that will let you play the game starting at Bearbaiting. Just remember to delete it as soon as you complete the campaign or you won't be able to play the eariler missions again.
