Two questions about ps6.

1. How do you make stars?
2. How do you blend them in so when you place a planet on one layer the stars don't go over the planet, so there are no stars visible on the planet itself?

If you are doing it manually, just put 3-pixel wide dots...

If you adding a planet manually, just make another layer that is above the stars and add the planet... and delete any black on the planet.

Pretty complicated so the easier way:

Use Glitterario from Flaming Pear and make the starfield with that, then get LunarCell from the same place and make the planet with that, but make sure when you add the planet, it's in composite mode.

I'd also suggest a seperate layer for everything you add to a render. Makes it SOOO much easier to move a planet or whatever around until you like the exact look at feel.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

If you want to make stars without using a tool such as Flaming Pear's Glitterato, you can try this method:

start with a black canvas - go to Filters -> Noise -> Add Noise -> select Gaussian Monochromatic and adjust the slider to the amount you want.

Then go Image -> Adjust -> Levels, and then you can adjust the 3 levels on the main graph to your liking.  You'll probably only need to adjust the centre slider.

Hope this has been of some help

That makes stars too dense. Mostly, just set the paintbrush to fade at 1 step and click a lot. You can also use different colors, if you keep 'em faint...

Good starfields should have thousands upon thousands of stars in them. That would take a while to click out...

Actually, this is a good method for making the brighter stars.  Then just do the guassian noise and use the erase tool to thin to your liking.
