Jack Thompson would have had to have withdrawn at some point anyway in order to present himself as a witness in the case, so it is not as fatal a blow as you would think. I'm more concerned with his recent uninformed and blatantly racist rants against how Japan is trying to 'pollute' American children with their perverse culture (oh the irony). He also firmly believes that Japan only exports this stuff and doesn't sell it to it's own children, and wrote a letter to the Japanese ambassador saying so.

He seems to have failed to notice the Xbox and PC versions of the various GTA games. If GTA is a PS2 exclusive game, as he seems to want it to be, does that mean in his deluded world the Xbox and PC versions include and use PS2 emulators?

Dodging questions, unwilling to change his train of thought... sounds typical.  I'm glad this SOB has withdrawn.  He's made mistakes throughout his arguement enough to make me go mad.  Take-Two didnt make the game anyway, Rockstar North, based on just about the opposite side of the world made it.  How inaccurate can this guy really honestly be?  I know English culture is different than American culture in many respects, but Japanese culture is a world away from ours.  He's wrong on so many levels here it sickens me.  Just another guy blowing his horn for another 15 minutes of fame, and further degrading the gaming industry to produce weak, unimaginative games that take a single weekend to finish.  (I dunno about any of you, but I played GTA:SA off and on for three months  and havent completed it.  I havent gone out and shot anyone!)

In a way, it's a success story. No matter how misguided you are, even if your justification is weak, as long as you believe you're right and some people agree with you, you can make the headlines. Maybe you won't accomplish things if your quest is particularly retarded...well, he did get that one mod made, and PA covered for his promise, so I guess he did, indirectly, make a difference.

Oh, in just about any other situation, he would have been put into a mental health ward, considering his occasional ravings on GamePolitics where he accuses all computer gamers of being 'low frontal lobe activity teenagers'.

1 : I'm a gamer at 33
2 : My Dad's a gamer at 65, older than Jack, his favourite game is Doom 3.
3 : When Mr Thompson was a child, the chances are he was running around with plastic guns shooting them at his friends for fun, just like most young kids did, which is a hella sight more realistic than a collection of pixels.

Jack's only defence to his actions is that he knows better than the rest of the planet, a Jesus complex.
