freespace2 cheats - has anyone tried them?
Hey there,

I'm new to the Freespace community and I really like the Descent: Freespace and Freespace 2. They are really sick games! I used to play both of them when I was around 13 years old, but I kinda lost interest in the game as I got older. I really like Freespace 2 very well and I'm planning to reinstall the game in the near future. Anyway, has anyone tried the Freespace 2 cheats? I used to try them way back when I used to have my old AMD K6-1 PC running Windows 98SE, and I didn't got caught red handed (I tried the invulerable part and the infinite weapons part of it). If you people want to try the cheats, here they are (this is from www.cheatheaven.co.uk):

During play, type www.freespace2.com to open up cheats. You'll see a message to confirm. Now hold ~ (tilde) and enter the following...

K            Kill target
Shift + K         Kill targeted sub-system
Alt + K        10% damage to ship
Alt + Shift + K   10% damage to target
C         Send message to enemies
Shift + C       Toggle countermeasure availability for all ships
I          Invincibility
Shift + I        Invincibility for target
O             Descent-style physics
W             Unlimited weapons for your ship
Shift + W       Unlimited weapons for all ships
G             All primary goals complete
Shift + G           All secondary goals complete
Alt + G          All bonus goals complete
9         Move forward through secondary weapons
Shift + 9        Move backward through secondary weapons
0         Move forward through primary weapons
Shift + 0        Move backward through secondary weapons
R         Rearm request for target

If you enable those cheat codes, this prevents you from advancement to the next mission. If you were people who got the v1.2 patch (i've tried the cheats with those patch as far as I know, but correct me if i'm wrong), then you can advance it with no problems in my opinion. As for my computer today, I'm now running a Pentium 4 at 1.4Ghz, 256 MB RDRAM, 120GB Hard drive, Nvidia RIVA TNT2 video card and Windoze XP Pro SP2. I heard there's also a Freespace 2 for linux, am I right?

Anyway, enjoy those cheats, folks.

Um...we've known about these for a very, very, very long time :p

While you're at it, try "vasudanswuvfishes" I think it is, in the mainhall, and see what happens :p

Ironically, you're talking to the community that's kinda behind part of that (Ok, so just taylor and WMC, really, but still)

Re: freespace2 cheats - has anyone tried them?
Freespace 2 has been working on Linux for years actually.  It was ported as part of the icculus.org project about a month or so after the source was originally released.  Later, some of that work filtered into FS2_Open and I picked it up (since I also have/am working on the icculus.org version) to complete it.  Now both versions work under Linux and OS X and are also 64-bit and PowerPC compatible.  Release versions of FS2_Open can always be found here: http://icculus.org/~taylor/fso/releases

So yeah, there is a Linux version. :D

BTW, the icculus.org port also supports the original Freespace 1 using all original data and is available for Linux and OS X.  Just FYI.

I did those cheats the VERY FIRST time I played FS2 (bout' 6 years ago). I started cheating on that beerbateing mission.

Re: freespace2 cheats - has anyone tried them?
I'm confused about the main hall cheats...I'm assuming that I type in "www.freespace2.com" then 'humanheadsinside' or 'vasudanswuvfishes'...but every time finish typing in the site, it takes me straight the the ready room.   Any idea what's up?

And can you damage the Volition pirate ship? :P  Or better, can the pirate ship actually help you? I know it has turrets and all but... :drevil:
[V] for FS3!

Well...
"vasudanswuvfishes" only works in the Vasudan Mainhall (Psamptik)
And the thing with "humanheadsinside" (in vasudan Mainhall, too)...
It's "humanheadsinside." (notice the ".")...

Re: freespace2 cheats - has anyone tried them?
The volition bravo has ****ty turrets, but if I... edited... them... :drevil:

one side with AAAfs and the other with BFGreens. :drevil:

oh, and the ~+C Message Enemies is incorrectly named. It actually disables collisions so you can move through ships and lasers go through you. (yes, even beams).

~+Shift+C says it disables countermeasures, but it doesn't work. The shivan bastards in the nebula still used countermeasures. :p

~+G, Shift+G, and Alt+G only seem to work in SCP for some reason.

other than that, all the cheats are ok. :p

Isn't there one added by the SCP that turns on newtonian physics?

Re: freespace2 cheats - has anyone tried them?
It's not a cheat, and it's only semi-neutonian, all it does is locks your ship's heading and speed, but allows you to change your direction (where you're ship's pointing). It's Alt-G by default :)
(Your thrusters don't work though, you have to hit Alt-G before you can use them again).
