As the search function doesn't work, I couldn't find if anyone of you discovered this game. Its a new sci-fi mmo (space flight simulator), programmed by only one man. He currently is in need of some 3d modellers for the spaceships and stations.

The sites link is http://www.fl-tw.com/Infinity/index.php.
There's also a video released showing the seamless ground to space transition.
For after all what is man in nature? A nothing in relation to infinity, all in relation to nothing, a central point between nothing and all and infinitely far from understanding either.

Nice terrain engine! And I like the ground-space seamlessness, however, I notice that even on the development machine, there are some framerate issues at times (obviously this is running at full quality). I don't doubt it will be optimised, but it does concern me.

IIRC, he said in the forums that you will need a fast computer, as he's going to add many more things, planetwise. Vegetation, alien wildlife, water, gas planets.

But who knows, by the time this game gets released, maybe the gfx cards and cpus won't have much of a problem with engines like these.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

The only unexciting part of Infinity is long-distance travel. Doesn't sound fun flying for hours just to get to the outer rim of the galaxy, where there's practically nothing anyway...

This is not a signature.
You did not see this.
It was all a dream.
You will not tell anyone about this.

Now go and read this signature again.

So, you actually bothered to scroll down, eh? If you're that bored, you might as well take a look at the links above.

Well, at least you won't have to go there often ;)

Seriously though, looks-wise it is awesome, but even with procedurally generated universes, theres going to be repetition and patterns, that doesn't matter on a planet, but spread over an entire galaxy...it will be interesting to see how it's implemented. I'm suspecting there will be something akin to the Galaxy Jumpdrive from Elite, which changes the seed number (since that's actually how Elite did it years ago on the BBC) so you have multiple different 'galaxies' to play in :)

Well there's repetition in even the real universe. (which is admittedly pretty procedurally based :p )

I've posted on their boards since this is similar to what I've been thinking about doing after Rimscape provided that I could find a good 3d coder with the time.

If he's interested it'll give Malokhan the kick in the butt needed to get RS done ;) (yes we're still working on that new windows GUI and balancing... endless balancing)

There's a lot to be improved there, but it's looking great already. By the time it's a finished product, I think it'll be a lot better.

If it gets finish, sorry to be cynical, but I've seen more projects like this that have been abandoned.

EDIT: Oooh, it's being developed by a Belgian... Yep, it's gonna be abandoned. No offence :P, that might explain why there's a nice number of Dutchmen and Belgians on the forum. I feel like learning how to 3D model and apply, he doesn't work that far from here.
