I think the newer Shin Etsu pads they use are said to be better than the old ones. Lapping can help quite a bit though if the surfaces are particularly rough.
I'm going to use these cards for a month and then switch to a single G71 card, which should be a little faster than both of these GTs. My brother has been nagging me to make a second computer for him, so I can put one card into his machine and replace the other with a G71. It's a pity the vsync is messed up, as the speed improvements are absolutely massive in almost every game, new or old. This SLI technology has a lot of potential but it isn't really practical until they get this thing fixed.
